Yesterday was my introduction to fishing with tungsten weighted jig hooks. The week prior I had done a video review of the Hanak jig style hooks and tied a few nymph patterns with these to give them a shot. If you haven’t fished this style of hook, you need to. Every fish I caught was hooked perfectly in the top of the fish’s mouth and I didn’t loose a single one. What was really cool was these flies ride hook-point up so in addition to the incredible hook-sets I experience, these have the added benefit of not snagging on the bottom of the stream nearly as often. The result for me was more fish, less frustration, and an all-around epic morning on the stream. I recommend the Hanak 450BL style as it’s an all around good nymph hook with a large hook gape to help with better hook-sets.
