The pursuit of knowledge is key to improving in anything that you do, fly fishing is no different. My maturity as a fly fisher sky-rocketed the moment I adopted this mentality and began reading books and watching videos. There are so many resources out there to choose from so I’m going to break down and few of my favorites for you below.
Little Red Book of Fly Fishing by Kirk Deeter and Charlie Meyers:
This book is filled with short snippets of wisdom covering virtually everything related to fly fishing. I really liked that each topic was short and got to the point. If you go through this book and just commit a few of the articles to memory, you’ll become a better fisherman. Buy Here!
Fifty Places to Fish Before You Die by Chris Santella:
This book has great discussion and illustrations on some of the best fly fishing destinations around the world. Although this doesn’t have content to make you a better fisherman, it is great for entertainment and will inspire you to seek out new and interesting adventures on your fly fishing journeys. Modern Nymphing Featuring Devin Olsen and Lance Egan:
This DVD will change the way you approach nymph fishing all together. Devin and Lance do a tremendous job walking through all aspects of euro-nymphing including the setup, reading water, and confidence flies. This video alone has changed my mentality and approach to fly fishing and am convinced it will help get more fish in your net. Buy Here!
